The judiciary enters the New Year with renewed resolve to serve the public and strengthen the administration of justice, as it presses forward with reforms aimed at making courts more efficient, accessible, and responsive, Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo said.

In his New Year message, Gesmundo said the start of the year offers an opportunity for the judiciary to reaffirm its dedication to public service and institutional reform.

“A new year represents new beginnings and fresh opportunities,” Gesmundo said, adding that the moment calls for “renewed energy, purpose, and dedication” in serving the public.

The chief magistrate said the judiciary remains focused on reforms under the Strategic Plan for Judicial Innovations (SPJI) 2022–2027, which he described as central to efforts to reduce delays, improve efficiency, and bring justice closer to the people, particularly the most vulnerable.

He said the five-year program on innovation, technology, and institutional strengthening will continue to guide reform initiatives in the year ahead.

Gesmundo noted that as the judiciary moves toward the completion of the SPJI in 2027, the reform agenda will not end with the plan’s conclusion.

“The end of the SPJI will mark not a conclusion, but a transition,” he said, noting that the judiciary intends to adopt new strategies and adaptive approaches to address emerging challenges and evolving public needs.

The Chief Justice also expressed confidence that the foundations laid under the current reform program would be sustained and expanded in the years ahead.

He underscored the importance of collaboration in achieving meaningful judicial reform, citing the contributions of judges, court personnel, members of the legal profession, development partners, and the public.

Gesmundo added that public trust remains central to the judiciary’s mission, emphasizing that reforms are aimed at building a justice system that serves all fairly, effectively, and with integrity.
