The Department of Health (Department of Health) recorded 235 cases of firecracker-related injuries from 21 December 2025, up to 4 a.m. of 1 January 2026.

According to the agency, data from 62 DoH-monitored sentinel hospitals nationwide showed a 42 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2024.

Individuals aged 19 and below accounted for nearly 69 percent of the cases, or 161 victims, while the remaining 31 percent involved those aged 20 and above.

Boga, five star, and other unidentified types of firecrackers topped the list of those that caused the most injuries.

The agency again reminded the public to refrain from using firecrackers and advised that in case of emergency, the National Emergency Hotline 911 should be contacted for medical assistance. For urgent cases, patients were advised to be brought immediately to the nearest hospital.

The first firecracker-related death was recorded on Sunday, 28 December, after a 12-year-old boy lit a “big triangle” firecracker, resulting in his death and the hospitalization of another 12-year-old companion.
