Subic Bay Freeport — The Department of Tourism (DoT) in Region 3 has recognized two hotels here for their commitment to inclusivity, designating them as Muslim-friendly accommodation establishments.
During a flag-raising ceremony at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) administration building, DoT regional director Richard Daenos presented certificates of recognition to The Aurora Subic Hotel and The Mansion Garden Hotel.
The awards cite the hotels’ compliance with Memorandum Circular 2024-003, which sets the national guidelines for governing and recognizing Muslim-friendly accommodations.
Aurora general manager Rhett M. Villaruz and Mansion Garden Hotel operations manager Sheanelle F. Calayag accepted the honors.
To receive the designation, establishments must provide specific amenities, including prayer rooms, Qibla direction markers in guest rooms, prayer mats and copies of the Quran.
Facilities must also feature “water-friendly” toilets equipped with bidet sprays or water sources for wudu, the Islamic ritual purification.
Dining requirements are equally stringent, requiring Halal-certified kitchens or menus that clearly identify Halal options prepared with separate utensils.
SBMA Tourism manager Mary Jamelle Camba, who witnessed the awarding, said the recognition proves the Freeport’s capability to cater to diverse religious affiliations.
“The award is a testament to the capabilities of hotel establishments here in handling various needs of tourists,” Camba said, adding that the Freeport is a viable destination for travelers of all beliefs.
The certification process also involves staff training in Muslim customs and providing guests with information regarding nearby mosques and culturally sensitive services.
