Veteran pro David Clores turned back the clock in style, firing a sizzling six-under-par 64 to run away with the Teaching Pro division at the PGAP year-end tournament at Veterans Golf Club on Monday.
While Clores made it look easy, the rest of the field delivered plenty of late drama. Three other divisions went down to sudden-death playoffs, providing a tense and fitting finish to the season at the historic course.
Clores shrugged off an opening bogey and caught fire the rest of the way, piling up seven birdies to finish six shots clear of Mharts Rivera. It was a reminder of the steady, experienced play that has defined his career.
There was dominance as well in the super senior bracket, where Danilo delos Santos posted a solid 67 to secure a two-shot victory over Eduardo Lactao.
The touring pro division needed an extra hole, with Gabo Santiago holding his nerve by making par in the playoff to edge Albin Engino, who stumbled with a bogey. Both players had earlier signed for matching 68s.
Another playoff highlight came in the senior bracket, where multi-titled Tony Lascuña sealed the win in dramatic fashion, pitching in for birdie on the playoff hole to beat Johnny Espares after both finished regulation at 68.
The amateur division also went to sudden death, and it was Charles Serdenia who came out on top. A superb approach shot set up the winning birdie, allowing him to outlast Alvin Ribleza after the pair tied at 72.
