Battle-tested wingers Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas are aching for another dance with Alas Pilipinas if once again called upon for another tour of duty.

The duo quashed speculations that they would hang up their Alas jerseys following a long run with the national team, which they powered to silver and bronze medals in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games and an impressive debut on the world stage.

Espejo, who averaged 13.5 points per game in the four matches Alas played in the 33rd edition of the SEA Games in Thailand capped by a 30-point explosion in Alas’ five-set bronze medal match win over Vietnam, expressed willingness to continue fighting for the country’s honor.

A member of the national squad since 2015, the Ateneo de Manila University product is excited to see action in the 2027 edition of the biennial meet in Malaysia.

“As long as I’m able, I want to play. Hopefully, I’ll get another chance,” the 28-year-old open spiker said.

Bagunas, who plays for the Osaka Bluteons in the Japan SV.League, echoed what his teammate said.

“I want still want to help Alas,” he said.

Alas ended a six-year medal drought in its first podium in the SEA Games since a runner-up finish in the 2019 Manila edition.

Espejo and Bagunas form the lethal wing combo of Alas and also serve as the heart and soul of the national squad.

With the pair, who are tough rivals during their college days, at the helm, Alas has not only a tandem of superb spikers but also two bright heads as leaders.

“I want to continue guiding our newcomers and young players,” Espejo said.

“It’s to let go, especially if a senior suddenly leaves. As long as I can, I’m ready to play for the Philippines,” added Espejo, who is getting ready for an overseas club stint in Chinese Taipei.
