Atty. Ruy Rondain, counsel for former Rep. Zaldy Co, on Tuesday night rebuffed the assertion of Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla that his client amassed P5 billion in Bitcoin abroad.
Rondain said the airwaves have again been flooded with false and misleading claims coming from Sec. Jonvic Remulla.
He said the Bitcoin assertion abroad is a complete fabrication.
Rondain said that, for the sake of credibility, Rep. Co challenges Sec. Remulla to name his alleged “associate” who gave him that information. "But, even if he does not name that alleged source, Sec. Remulla can keep any bitcoin he can find in Rep. Co’s name, in any amount."
Co's camp also quashed the assertion that Rep. Co’s Forbes Park home has “four to five basement levels”; this, too, is a fabrication. Rep. Co again challenges Sec. Remulla to disclose the source of his information, because neither the existing building nor the construction plans support his claim.
Rondain said the house is designed with a split-type basement, strictly for vehicles. "This is necessary not because Rep. Co has unaccounted for cash, but because the village’s rules allow only a limited build area in relation to the total lot area. The split-tier is designed only to maximize the house’s footprint."
The claim that the basement is so designed to store cash because “fire moves upward” is pure speculation. The public deserves facts, not misinformation, and the latter has no place in the debate on public issues, said Rondain.
