The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is celebrating a landmark year, citing major strides in both modernization and border control efforts in 2025.
In a recent radio interview, BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval highlighted several key achievements, including the installation of electronic gates at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminals 1 and 3. The initiative aims to gradually replace at least half of the traditional manual immigration counters with e-gates, prioritizing overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), followed by foreign nationals with long-term visas, residents, and other registered visitors.
“Even with the new e-gates, our officers remain hands-on,” Sandoval said. “They assist travelers whose documents are flagged or whose gates fail to open, ensuring smooth processing for everyone.”
Sandoval also noted significant enforcement successes, particularly after the POGO ban ordered by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This year, the BI has arrested 1,908 illegal aliens, including more than 100 fugitives, and intercepted numerous foreign nationals deemed inadmissible due to derogatory records or involvement in illegal activities.
