The local government of Pasig City on Thursday shared the inauguration of a food and water quality assurance and testing laboratory, a facility that tests food products to ensure quality and safety.

Mayor Vico Sotto said the primary objective of the testing laboratory is to protect and ensure the safety of the public from food- and water-borne illnesses and unsanitary, misbranded, or adulterated foods.

"This project is aligned with our broader goal of better enforcement of sanitary and even environmental standards in our city, for public health reasons," Sotto said on his Facebook account.

"While offering competitive (lower) rates for Pasig and other establishments, this will also be an income-generating facility for the local government," the mayor added.

The facility has a total project cost of P16.2 million and is located at the Mega Dialysis Compound in Barangay San Miguel.

Sotto congratulated the City Health Department's Sanitation Section on this project.
