The victim, identified as Claudette Jacobo, said she initially thought someone had thrown something at her, but the sudden numbness and discovery of blood led her to believe she had been stabbed.
“I wasn’t paying attention to it at first,” Jacobo said. “But then it suddenly felt numb, so I got my face towel from my bag and wiped it. I was shocked to see blood. I thought I was stabbed with an ice pick.”
The jeepney driver accompanied her to a police outpost, and she was later taken to a hospital for treatment. An X-ray confirmed she had been shot, and police identified the object as an airsoft gun pellet.
Jacobo expressed gratitude that the pellet struck her back and not her head. “The police officer also told me that if it had hit my head or my nape, I might not be alive now,” she said.
Although she is out of danger, Jacobo is still experiencing pain as the pellet remains embedded near her spine. She quoted the examining surgeon as saying they will “wait for it to rise to the surface first, and only then will they operate on it and remove it.”
The Binangonan Municipal Police Station is investigating who is responsible for the incident.
Jacobo said her experience resonated with others, noting that other individuals shared similar incidents of being hit by airsoft pellets in response to her social media post, including one who was hit in the leg in Angono, Rizal, last March.
