A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Japan’s main island of Honshu on Wednesday, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC).

The seismic event was recorded at a depth of about 31 kilometers. The EMSC earlier reported the quake at a higher magnitude of 6.5 with a depth of 57 kilometers before revising the figures.

No immediate reports of damage or casualties were released following the earthquake.

The latest tremor comes just days after a stronger 7.6-magnitude earthquake shook northeastern Japan on Monday evening, prompting tsunami warnings and evacuation orders affecting around 90,000 residents.

Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the region as Japan remains one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries.
