The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Friday revealed that it is advancing its investigations into flood control projects in Bulacan, with five cases currently undergoing preliminary investigation.
Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon said Friday. of the five, three cases have already been submitted for resolution, which the DOJ expects before 15 December.
The two remaining cases were delayed after additional respondents were identified, including project proponents and contractors, following evidence submitted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
“These additional respondents are being given the opportunity to file their counter affidavits. We expect the preliminary investigations to be completed soon,” Fadullon said. Respondents requesting extensions were granted five additional days to submit their documents.
Cases involved DPWH district officials, including Henry Alcantara, Bryce Fernandez, and JP Mendoza, as well as contractors linked to ghost projects such as Sims and Wawa West. Former senator Bong Revilla and former congressman Zaldy Co. were also named as respondents in separate cases.
Fadullon added that three other cases, initially referred to the Office of the Ombudsman, were returned to the DOJ for preliminary investigation. Panels have been formed to review documents once the NBI completes its submissions and subpoenas are issued.
