A 58-year-old woman allegedly linked to multiple salisi incidents across Metro Manila was arrested Monday after attempting to enter a building using a fake identification card in Makati City.
The suspect, identified by police as Chedita Tacata Tan, a resident of Trece Martires, Cavite, was apprehended at 12:02 p.m. at an establishment along Rufino Street in Barangay San Lorenzo.
Makati Mayor Nancy Binay lauded the police for the arrest and simultaneously issued a warning to citizens to remain vigilant as the holiday season approaches.
The arrest stemmed from a complaint filed by a security officer named Ernesto, who flagged the suspect after she attempted to enter the building by falsely claiming to be an employee. Tan presented a Philippine Postal ID in her name, but a security check revealed the ID was fake.
Further verification using a PhilPost verification app confirmed the QR code corresponded to a completely different identity, leading to her arrest on charges of falsification of public documents and use of a fictitious name.
In a crucial turn of events, the company’s human resources officer recognized Tan as the same individual involved in a salisi theft incident within the establishment on 17 September 2025.
Police said Tan is known to use several aliases, including “Melinda,” “Cherry Rodriguez Tan,” “Anna Baler Rosero,” “Mae Anne Tuano Cruz” and “Erlinda Tacata Tan,” and is reportedly involved in previous theft cases in commercial areas.
Binay commended the Makati City Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Col. Pedro A. Alagano Jr., for the successful operation.
“I want to personally commend the quick action and relentless dedication of the Makati City Police,” Binay said. “Their successful apprehension of this long-operating suspect is proof of our focused efforts on fighting crime. My administration remains committed to ensuring that every resident and visitor feels safe and secure in Makati.”
The mayor also stressed the need for public alertness ahead of the holidays.
“As we enter the Christmas season, more people are visiting malls, parks, churches, and public spaces,” the mayor added. “I urge everyone to be extra vigilant, secure their belongings, and immediately report any suspicious individuals or activities to our authorities.”
The city has increased security measures under its Holiday Safety Operations, which involves heightened patrols and coordination with private establishments to proactively prevent crime.
