BSP unveils new commemorative coins

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) unveiled two new commemorative coin series at Malacañang Palace on Wednesday, slated for circulation starting in 2026.

The new issues include the P10 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) 2026 Commemorative Coin and the 12-coin series of the P100 Philippine Festivals Commemorative Coins.

BSP governor Eli M. Remolona Jr. and deputy governor Mamerto E. Tangonan led the presentation. They were joined by ASEAN National Organizing Council Representative Aian Caringal and Department of Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Ana Marie L. Hernando.

The P10 ASEAN Commemorative Coin features the ASEAN 2026 logo, which incorporates a woven pattern, rice stalk, waves, and a balangay boat. The coin also includes a QR code that can be scanned to view information about the ASEAN 2026 event.

Meantime, the P100 Philippine Festivals Commemorative Coins will feature a giant lantern design representing the symbols and elements of 12 distinct Philippine festivals.

According to the BSP, one design will be released each month throughout 2026 to coincide with the featured festival’s celebration. The series aims to boost tourism by attracting global collectors and showcasing the country as a vibrant cultural destination.

The 12 featured festivals are the Sinulog Festival in Cebu City; Tan-Ok Ni Ilocano Festival in Ilocos Norte; Kaamulan Festival in Bukidnon; Moriones Festival in Marinduque; Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon; Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival in Tacloban City; T’nalak Festival in South Cotabato; Kadayawan Festival in Davao City; Peñafrancia Festival in Naga City; MassKara Festival in Bacolod City; Higantes Festival in Angono, Rizal; and the Giant Lantern Festival in San Fernando City, Pampanga.
