ERC rejects NASECORE demand on true-up filings

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has pushed back on calls by the National Association of Electricity Consumers for Reforms Inc. (NASECORE) for all power distribution companies to immediately file true-up applications.

In a letter addressed to NASECORE president Petronila Ilagan, ERC chairperson and CEO Francis Saturnino C. Juan said the commission is already acting “promptly, consistently, and transparently in the public interest.”

‘Unwarranted and uncalled for’

He added that claims that the ERC is being “selective” are “unwarranted and uncalled for, given the Commission’s tireless efforts to safeguard consumer welfare while ensuring the stability of the electric power industry.”

Juan noted that the ERC has already addressed the lapsed regulatory period for all private distribution utilities under the same rules as the Manila Electric Co.

He said the Commission issued a draft Resolution on 13 August 2025 requiring utilities with pending applications to submit updates within 60 days, and those without applications to file within the same period, or face fines.

“The Commission will continue to act with resolve, independently and in accordance with law, to advance the national interest and protect every Filipino consumer,” Juan said, rejecting any suggestion of selective regulation.
