The SM City Cabanatuan has upgraded its solar power system to 1,960 kilowatts peak (kWp), reducing carbon emissions by 243.6 tons.

In a statement released on 16 November, the SM City Cabanatuan said that the recent upgrade of its solar power system shows its strong commitment to using clean and renewable energy.

"The new solar setup covers a massive 10,750 square meters on the mall’s rooftop equivalent to 4,468 solar pv system— that’s about the size of one and a half football fields! With a total capacity of 1,960kWp, the system can now produce even more power from the sun to help run the mall’s daily operations," an SM City Cabanatuan official said.

She added that this upgrade does not just save energy, it also helps protect the planet.

Every year, the solar panels are expected to: reduce carbon emissions by 243.6 tons — that’s like taking dozens of cars off the road for a year.

Provide power equivalent to 1,114 households, showing how big of an impact solar energy can make.

"This offset pollution is equal to planting 11,181 trees," she added.

SM City Cabanatuan’s solar power upgrade is part of SM Prime Holdings’ ongoing efforts to build eco-friendly and energy-efficient malls across the country. By investing in solar energy, SM is helping fight climate change while keeping its malls bright, cool, and welcoming for shoppers.

With this solar project, SM City Cabanatuan proves that progress does not have to come at the expense of the environment. It is a clear example that even big spaces can make a big difference, one solar panel at a time.
