Veteran runners Mark Anthony Oximar and Maricar Camacho zoomed past the main pack from the get-go to rule the 16-kilometer category of the Run Ortigas in Pasig City on Sunday.
Oximar clocked one hour and 56 seconds to conquer the event that started at The Grounds before snaking through Julia Vargas Avenue, Meralco Avenue, St. Paul Street, Lanuza Street, and Central Avenue before heading back to the finish line.
He said he broke away in the first kilometer before taking it slow en route to the overwhelming victory.
“I already separated from the pack in the first kilometer, but I kept my pace. I am using this to prepare for my next marathons,” Oximar said.
RUNRIO president Rio dela Cruz finished second place with a time of 1:09:4 but opted to give the silver medal to Aron Fresco, who clocked 1:14:11. Joel Orlanes clinched the bronze medal in 1:18:20.
Like Oximar, Camacho broke away from the start to rule the women’s division in 1:08:05.
“You need to take care of your lead from the start. I didn’t slow down,” Camacho said. “The route is good.”
Eloisa Cusi settled for a silver medal in 1:09:12 while Jocelyn Elijeran claimed the bronze medal in 1:13:02.
Meanwhile, Roy Laudit (36:20) and Rachel Victorino (1:00:15) dominated the 10km category while Raisen Camba (18:14) and Jonalyn Elijeran (24:34) ruled the 5km category.
Jojie Daga-as and Cyclone (2:57) and Aiyesa Cabanes and Chopper (4:11) won the 1km Fur Baby category.
