Alleged Korean crypto hub dismantled

Authorities in the Philippines dismantled an alleged crypto-trafficking hub operating under the guise of a business process outsourcing (BPO) company and rescued two minors during a joint operation last 12 November.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) conducted the raid at The Knoll BPO Services Building in Barangay Santa Teresita.
The operation was executed under Search Warrant No. 25-426, which covered violations of the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Authorities allege the establishment was involved in illegal cryptocurrency farming and online exploitation. The company reportedly lured recruits with promises of legitimate call center jobs but subjected them instead to deceptive and exploitative digital labor.
The operation resulted in the rescue of two minors and the arrest of three individuals: Lim, a Korean national identified as a manager; Gie, a Filipina secretary; and Jane, a Filipina manager.
Authorities said another Korean national, identified as operator Park, remains at large.
Seized evidence included 132 computer system units, 44 cellular phones, modems, routers, and various company documents and digital devices used in the operation.
PRO3 regional director PBGen. Ponce Rogelio I. Peñones Jr. commended the coordinated efforts, emphasizing that shutting down cyber-enabled trafficking networks remains a top priority.
He cited that the operation aligns with the Philippine National Police’s current focus on enhanced managing police operations and cybercrime capability enhancement.
