President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Saturday visited several towns in Negros Occidental to personally check on families affected by typhoon “Tino” and assess the extent of damage left in its wake.

His first stop was the Jose Pepito Montilla Garcia Sr. National High School in Barangay 1, Moises Padilla, where floodwaters submerged multiple classrooms at the height of the typhoon.

The school has 1,257 enroled learners this school year. With several classrooms rendered unusable, teachers and students shifted to alternative delivery modes to continue classes.

From the school, Marcos proceeded to Barangay Poblacion to inspect damaged homes and speak with affected residents.

He then visited evacuees temporarily sheltered at La Castellana Elementary School in La Castellana, where 307 families — or 1,117 individuals — are currently staying, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

The President also inspected the collapsed Bungahin Steel Bridge in Barangay Robles, La Castellana, which cut access between upland communities and the town center.

So far, the Office of the President has allocated P95 million for recovery efforts in Typhoon Tino-hit areas in Negros Occidental.

Of this amount, P50 million will go to the provincial government. La Carlota City, La Castellana and Moises Padilla will each receive P10 million. The towns of Binalbagan, Isabela and Hinigaran will each receive P5 million.
