Group warns of toxic chemicals in Christmas lights

An environmental group has warned the public about potential health risks from hazardous chemicals found in some Christmas lights.

Based on its latest assessment, the organization said several products contained dangerous substances.

The World Health Organization says the toxic chemicals pose serious risks, especially to children.

Ban Toxics advocacy officer Thony Dizon urged the Department of Trade and Industry to investigate Christmas lights sold in the country and ensure they contain no harmful chemicals.

He recommended avoiding overly colorful decorations and celebrating the holidays in an eco-friendly way, which he said can also help typhoon victims.
