A total of 346 Filipinos were repatriated Wednesday, arriving via a chartered flight after being rescued from scam compounds in Myawaddy, Myanmar, in what authorities described as one of the largest repatriations of rescued victims from scam hubs.
Hannah Manalili, executive director of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT), said the group included two batches of individuals.
Batch B, composed of 127 individuals, was identified by Thai and Myanmar authorities as human trafficking victims. These individuals had been sheltered by non-governmental organizations and processed under a Thai-Myanmar government-to-government repatriation protocol.
Batch A, consisting of 219 individuals, was not classified by Thai authorities as human trafficking victims upon initial assessment. They will undergo further victim identification protocols and proceedings under Philippine authorities.
