The Department of Justice (DoJ) has reset the preliminary investigation into the multi-million peso flood control scandal after the government announced a widespread suspension of work and classes across Luzon and parts of the Visayas due to adverse weather conditions.
The initial hearing, scheduled for 10 November, was canceled following an order from Malacañang suspending government operations and classes at all levels.
Prosecutor General Richard Anthony Fadullon told reporters that the DoJ is aiming to hold the investigation later this week.
“We are looking at Friday provided subpoenas are all served,” Fadullon said in a message.
The work suspension was ordered by Malacañang through Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, who signed Memorandum Circular No. 106 on Sunday.
The investigation is set to focus on five major cases involving alleged “ghost” flood control projects and DoJ spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez previously confirmed that subpoenas were served against former top officials of the Bulacan First District Engineering Office and their partner-contractors.
