When Gabbi Garcia first stepped into the role of Alena in Encantadia in 2016, she was a rising talent entering a franchise that helped shape an era of Filipino fantasy television. Nearly a decade later, the Kapuso actress is set to return — stronger, more mature, and ready to reclaim her place as the goddess of water in “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre.”
In her recent guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Gabbi expressed her excitement about returning to the world that defined a pivotal moment in her career.
“It’s been fun, Tito Boy,” she said. “The people behind Encantadia — the cast, the production — they’re family. It’s like going back to your OG show. I can’t say it’s the same because a lot has changed, but the love is still the same.”
Gabbi acknowledged that her portrayal of Alena in 2025 will reflect significant growth, shaped by experience and a deeper understanding of the character.
“I’ve seen so many comments about Alena — some were happy, others were disappointed with how her character turned out. But all I can say is, this time around, you guys won’t be disappointed,” she said.
She hinted that Sang’gre will explore new layers of Alena — honoring the original while evolving the character’s emotional arc.
Gabbi also addressed recurring fan discussions about her limited appearance in certain episodes of the 2016 version, explaining that her absence was due to factors beyond her control.
“Back then, I was still a minor,” she said. “There were working hour limitations because of DOLE, and at one point, I had a short six-day commercial shoot abroad. Some people thought I was missing tapings because of side projects, but that wasn’t true.”
She added that storyline shifts also contributed, noting that she felt genuine “FOMO” at the time.
“I wanted to be there for every scene, every moment. But those were circumstances I couldn’t control. What mattered to me was giving my best whenever I was on set.”
Gabbi shared her excitement about reuniting with Glaiza De Castro (Pirena), Kylie Padilla (Amihan), and Sanya Lopez (Danaya), calling the reunion both emotional and empowering.
“It feels surreal to be working with them again,” she said. “We’ve all grown so much — not just as artists but as women.”
Gabbi hopes audiences will see a version of Alena that is grounded, evolved, and resonant.
“I owe so much to this role,” she said. “This comeback is my way of honoring that — and giving back to the fans who never stopped believing in Alena.”
With renewed depth and maturity, Gabbi Garcia returns to Encantadia — not just as a Sang’gre, but as a woman who embraces transformation and second chances.
