Golf, it seems, has acquired a new title: diplomat.
The Embassy of Malaysia in Manila and its chamber of commerce will host the Malaysia Friendship Open Cup Golf Tournament at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club in Pampanga, 22 November.
The field is expected to include 288 golfers: prominent businessmen, diplomats, government representatives and avid players from both Malaysia and the Philippines. A smattering of international participants will also tee off.
“This tournament is more than a game,” said His Excellency Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Malaysia’s Ambassador to the Philippines.
“As Malaysia hands over the Asean chairmanship to the Philippines, this event embodies cooperation and camaraderie, reinforcing the spirit of regional unity and the vision of a cohesive Asean Community 2045.”
More than 38 organizations are joining as strategic partners and sponsors. Their involvement ensures the tournament’s objectives extend beyond sport.
Proceeds will support charitable initiatives and provide critical aid to communities affected by calamities and natural disasters. In other words, every swing counts.
The tournament is designed to strengthen professional networks while fostering lasting personal and business relationships between Malaysia, the Philippines and the wider international community. On the green, negotiations may pause; off it, partnerships take root.
Organizers anticipate the event will generate goodwill and tangible opportunities for collaboration across sectors. By the final hole, the scorecards may tell a shared vision for Southeast Asia.
