ILOILO CITY — Nearly 6,000 houses across Western Visayas were damaged by Typhoon Tino (Kalmaegi) as fierce winds and floods swept through the region, displacing thousands of families and leaving widespread destruction in its wake.
According to the Office of Civil Defense Region 6 (OCD-6), the storm affected more than 233,000 families, or about 764,000 individuals. Iloilo recorded the highest number of affected residents, followed by Capiz, Antique, Aklan, and Guimaras.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-6) and local governments have distributed P33.8 million worth of food and non-food assistance to affected areas, as damage assessments continue to determine the full extent of losses.
Authorities said rehabilitation and shelter aid will be prioritized for families whose homes were totally destroyed by the typhoon.
