Makati City is not only giving scholarship to deserving student but also to its teachers. To raise the quality of science education in city schools, Mayor Nancy Binay signed a scholarship agreement with University of Santo Tomas that will see Makati City teachers earn Certificate in Science Teaching (CST) from the prestigious educational institution.
The Teacher Effectiveness and Competence Honing (Teach) program will initially fund the 6-month, 27-unit post-baccalaureate course of 25 public elementary school science teachers starting January 2026. The course is designed to enhance their instructional expertise and improve learner outcomes in the sciences.
“By educating the educators, we will be able to enhance the capacities of our teachers and equip them with the knowledge and skills to better teach Makati’s young students in the field of science and technology,” Binay said at the signing ceremony for the memorandum of agreement with UST.
The CST course will be conducted in hybrid mode with selected sessions held in-person and synchronous sessions on Saturdays to accommodate the teachers’ schedules. Upon completion, scholars will be required to render at least one year of service in Makati’s public school system, applying and integrating the knowledge and skills they have acquired.
