Fewer people visited the Manila South Cemetery in Makati City on All Saints’ Day, 1 November.
According to the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, more than 48,000 people had entered the cemetery as of 1 p.m.
Authorities earlier estimated that around 100,000 visitors were expected at the Manila South Cemetery for this year’s Undas observance.
Meanwhile, the local government of Manila provided wheelchair assistance to visitors paying respects to their departed loved ones. Free rides were also made available inside the cemetery to help those visiting graves located farther from the main entrance.
Officials reminded the public that, aside from the usual prohibited items such as firearms, pointed objects, liquor, and cigarettes, pets are not allowed inside the cemetery premises. Private vehicles are also barred from entering.
Visiting hours at the Manila South Cemetery are from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. until 2 November. Overnight stays remain strictly prohibited.
