KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos expressed her gratitude to Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim for hosting the 47th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and bringing together the region’s leaders in this city.
Mrs. Marcos accompanied her husband, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., to the summit.
“What a beautiful and inspiring start to the 47th ASEAN Summit!” the First Lady wrote on social media. “Huge congratulations to ASEAN Chair, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar, for bringing our region together in such a warm and meaningful way.”
The First Couple entered the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center on Sunday during the opening of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.
As national leaders engaged in their bilateral meetings, Mrs. Marcos joined the spouses of the presidents, prime ministers, and other officials at other activities, exploring areas of cooperation focusing on cultural exchanges and harmony among ASEAN states.
The First Lady cited the energy, hospitality, and talent of the Malaysian people as one of the things she enjoyed on the first day of the summit.
“Grateful to be here with our ASEAN family,” she said.
Next year, in 2026, the Philippines will host the ASEAN Summits and Related Summits, as President Marcos assumes the chairmanship of the regional gathering.
