As part of Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) preparations for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, the agency will deploy 2,400 traffic enforcers to ensure the safety of motorists.
“The MMDA is already prepared. We will be deploying around 2,400 enforcers,” MMDA Task Force Special Operations chief Edison “Bong” Nebrija said in a news forum on Saturday.
According to Nebrija, the deployment started on 25 October A no-leave, no-absence, no day-off policy will be implemented on 30 and 31 October and on 3 November, which is the expected return date of many people coming back to Manila from their provinces.
Nebrija said the MMDA already conducted clearing operations in five major cemeteries in Metro Manila, including Manila North Cemetery, Manila South Cemetery, Loyola Park (Marikina), Bagbag Cemetery and San Juan Cemetery.
“We will also assign personnel from the Metro Parkway Clearing Group. These are the ones assigned to the cemeteries, and they will help our local governments maintain cleanliness around the cemeteries,” Nebrija said in Filipino.
He advised cemetery visitors to check the websites or pages of their respective local governments to learn about traffic rerouting plans and permitted parking spaces near the cemeteries.
“Most cemeteries during this time will not allow parking inside the cemetery unless it’s a large cemetery. The smaller ones usually implement street parking,” Nebrija explained.
In addition, the MMDA reported that it has coordinated with the managements of the North Luzon Expressway, South Luzon Expressway, Manila–Cavite Expressway and the Cavite–Laguna Expressway (CALAX) to ensure an orderly flow of traffic.
Likewise, the MMDA has coordinated with the Highway Patrol Group and the National Capital Region Police to ensure peace and order during this period and to synchronize traffic management plans.
