Peachy de Leon, Quezon City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) spokesperson, on Sunday said the local government is ready for any eventualities that might be brought by Tropical Storm Ramil. De Leon said they have conducted pre-disaster risk assessments since Friday with other local departments.
Though there is no flooding yet, preemptive evacuations have been declared, with nine families currently staying in evacuation centers in Barangay Tatalon, District 4. Evacuation centers, De Leon said, will provide hot meals, clean water, and dry shelter, manned by health personnel who will monitor the welfare of evacuees.
She added that they are closely observing the city’s flood-prone areas—particularly Districts 1 and 4—as well as the water levels of four waterways. De Leon said Quezon City has three staging areas pre-positioned in Districts 1 and 4 and at the DRRMO building. These will have first responder teams and their equipment on standby for emergencies.
She advised residents to check the official Quezon City government Facebook page for weather updates and to heed barangay evacuation announcements for their safety. De Leon said that for any emergencies, contact the Quezon City government hotline at 1-2-2.
