Ayala-backed Globe Telecom Inc. reported an 18 percent decline in total fiber cut incidents in the first half of 2025 versus the same period last year, citing improved network resiliency, tighter security efforts, and stronger cooperation with local government units (LGUs) and host communities.
Globe said over the weekend that the improvement reflects the impact of its Fiber Cut Task Force (FCTF), a cross-functional initiative formed in 2024 to address increasing cases of cable damage that disrupted connectivity nationwide.
“The improvements demonstrate Globe’s commitment to ensuring a consistent and reliable network for all our customers,” said Joel Agustin, senior vice president and head of Service Planning and Engineering. “A reliable network is essential to support the country’s growing digital economy, and these results affirm that our proactive approach is delivering measurable results.”
Globe said the FCTF rolled out long-term engineering measures such as enhanced cable layout designs for both aerial and underground deployments to withstand roadworks and other external threats.
The company completed 1,500 kilometers of underground fiber facilities nationwide, which prevented more than 192 potential fiber cut incidents. Preventive maintenance in high-risk or “chronic” areas also reduced recurring incidents by up to 93 percent.
Landscape shifts
“The telco landscape is shifting, and we need hyper-focused, proactive measures to safeguard our infrastructure,” Agustin said. “Our collaboration with the communities and LGUs, plus our preventive maintenance programs, is helping ensure a more stable, secure network for customers nationwide.”
Globe continues to invest in network resiliency, including the underground migration of 1,200 wireless and broadband nodes and 1,600 kilometers of backbone fiber. The company said these upgrades are designed to boost service reliability for its mobile, broadband, and enterprise customers.
