Two Filipina overseas workers who were reported missing in Hong Kong have been located and are now under the care of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac confirmed Friday.
The two women, identified as Mahilum Pabuaya and Aleli Perez, were located Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. and brought to the MWO-Hong Kong office around midnight for psychosocial counseling.
“Our MWO assistant labor attaché received a call from our case officer informing that the two had been found and brought to a police station in Hong Kong, in Sha Tin Police Station,” Cacdac said during a press briefing.
Pabuaya and Perez had been reported missing after failing to return to work following their day off on Saturday, 4 October, the last day they were seen. Following their absence, their employers had terminated them.
Cacdac said the workers told authorities they had gone hiking when they went missing, but their full account remains unclear. He cited that the workers will be asked to provide a sworn statement to clarify the events.
