Actress Diane Keaton, recognized for her Oscar-winning role in 1977’s Annie Hall and her performance in The Godfather series, has passed away. She was 79.

Keaton’s family has requested privacy, a spokesperson for the family informed People.

Keaton often worked with director Woody Allen, playing the main role in Annie Hall as the delightful girlfriend of Allen’s character, Alvy Singer.

The movie also won Oscars for best picture, best director, and best original screenplay, securing Keaton’s status as one of the leading actresses in the industry.

The actress left her imprint by appearing alongside Allen in eight films, including Play It Again, Sam (1972), Manhattan (1979) and Manhattan Murder Mystery (1993).

Besides the Allen cannon, audiences loved her performance as Steve Martin’s spouse in the 1991 film Father of the Bride.

Towards the end of her career, Keaton appeared in two films centered on aging women: Book Club (2018), which conveys the idea that love knows no age, and Poms (2019), the tale of a terminally ill woman who relocates to a retirement community to pass away but ultimately creates a cheerleading team.

A winner of both a BAFTA and a Golden Globe, Keaton received Oscar nominations on three additional occasions for best actress in Reds, Marvin’s Room, and Something’s Gotta Give.

In 2017, the American Film Institute recognized Keaton with a Life Achievement Award, describing her as “unconventional, iconoclastic and left-of-center.”

Keaton is survived by her two children, Dexter and Duke.
