More often than not, the First Lady appears at ceremonial events, posing for photos and interacting on a personal level.

In a case very close to her heart, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, along with her husband, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., closely followed the travails of an overseas Filipino worker.

“Finally, after more than 30 years in Saudi Arabia, Marilyn Maglasang is home,” she enthused.

Mrs. Marcos met Maglasang in July 2025 in Riyadh where she was a domestic worker for decades.

She suffered an accident during her employment but instead of coming home to the Philippines, Maglasang chose to stay and fight for her rights.

“I told her then, ‘I’ll be there when you come home,’” the First Lady said.

Justice served

Through the efforts of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and the Saudi authorities, Maglasang had her day in court.

“After two long years, justice was served. She won her case and received restitution for all that she endured,” Mrs. Marcos shared.

“Marilyn’s courage reminds us of the quiet strength and resilience of our OFWs,” she added.

When meeting with OFWs, President Marcos emphasizes that they are the nation’s modern-day heroes and their welfare will always be a priority of his administration.
