In a deeply personal episode of the Can I Come In podcast, actress Liza Soberano bravely recounted harrowing memories from her childhood, revealing the emotional and psychological abuse she endured while living with her adoptive guardian.
Soberano shared that she was ostracized from simple family activities, including movie nights. Instead of joining, she was forced to sit in a large cardboard box behind the sofa—mockingly referred to as the “family dog.”
“I was the only one that wasn’t allowed to participate in family movie nights because I was the family dog,” she said. “They would literally call me that, and I would just sit there like a dog.”
Her candid account sheds light on the silent suffering many abuse survivors endure, offering both a sobering reminder of the long-lasting effects of such experiences and a testament to her courage in speaking out.
