BSP orders removal of in-app gambling links in payment platforms
Published on

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has ordered all BSP-supervised financial institutions (BSIs) – including e-wallet providers, banks, and other payment service operators – to suspend in-app gambling access from their mobile payment applications and websites within 48 hours.

In a memo released Thursday, the central bank directed BSIs to remove any product, service, or feature that redirects account holders to online gambling or gaming platforms. The order covers both domestic and foreign gambling sites accessible through local payment channels.

The BSP cited a surge in online gambling transactions, raising concerns about the financial well-being of consumers and the potential strain on households.

The suspension will remain in place while the BSP crafts a comprehensive policy on online gambling payment services, signaling stricter oversight of the sector in the months ahead.
