For nearly four decades, the PMPC Star Awards for Television has honored the brightest stars and most compelling stories on the small screen. But it was only in 2013 that the prestigious award-giving body introduced the Best Drama Supporting Actor and Best Drama Supporting Actress categories — a move to shine the spotlight on the scene-stealers whose performances give depth, texture, and unforgettable moments to every teleserye.
These categories have since become some of the most competitive in the awards night, drawing a long list of nominees from the country’s diverse roster of drama programs across all networks.
For TV shows aired in 2023, the Best Drama Supporting Actor nominees for the upcoming 37th Star Awards for Television are a powerhouse mix of industry veterans and acclaimed younger actors:
• John Arcilla (Dirty Linen / TV5, A2Z)
• Elijah Canlas (Senior High / TV5, A2Z)
• Christopher De Leon (FPJ’s Batang Quiapo / TV5, A2Z)
• Baron Geisler (Senior High / TV5, A2Z)
• Joel Lamangan (FPJ’s Batang Quiapo / TV5, A2Z)
• Kristoffer Martin (Mga Lihim Ni Urduja / GMA 7)
• Joel Torre (Dirty Linen / TV5, A2Z)
Past winners include acting heavyweights like Arjo Atayde (three wins), Ahron Villaflor (two wins), John Estrada (two wins), Baron Geisler, Daniel Fernando, Gabby Eigenmann, and Roderick Paulate — a testament to the caliber expected in this category.
On the other side of the spotlight, the Best Drama Supporting Actress race is equally fierce, with the following nominees:
• Pinky Amador (Abot Kamay Na Pangarap / GMA 7)
• Angel Aquino (Dirty Linen / TV5, A2Z)
• Rio Locsin (Black Rider / GMA 7)
• Cherry Pie Picache (FPJ’s Batang Quiapo / TV5, A2Z)
• Gladys Reyes (Black Rider / GMA 7)
• Sylvia Sanchez (Senior High / TV5, A2Z)
• Maricel Soriano (Pira-Pirasong Paraiso / TV5, A2Z)
Previous winners boast an equally stellar list, including KC Concepcion (two wins), Aiko Melendez (two wins), Sheryl Cruz, Sunshine Dizon, Lorna Tolentino, Kyline Alcantara, Janice De Belen, and Sylvia Sanchez herself — now vying for another shot at the trophy.
The question now is: Who will emerge victorious this season?
