The Philippine Air Force (PAF) officially welcomed five new S-70i Black Hawk helicopters to its fleet Wednesday, a significant step in the country’s military modernization.
PAF Commanding General Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura led the formal Acceptance, Turnover and Blessing Ceremony at the Haribon Hangar of Clark Air Base.
According to PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo, the newly delivered aircraft are part of a 32-unit acquisition deal with Polish manufacturer PZL Mielec. The helicopters arrived in the country on 15 July.
This is the third batch of deliveries, following the arrival of five helicopters on 10 June 2024, and another five on 9 December 2024.
The acquisition is part of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program, which aims to enhance the country’s air mobility and defense capabilities.
The new helicopters will be assigned to the 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing, the PAF’s primary unit for rapid deployment and logistics. The addition of the S-70i Black Hawks, known for their versatility and reliability, is expected to improve the PAF’s ability to support both peacetime missions and combat operations.
With the latest delivery, the Philippines now has 15 S-70i Black Hawks in service, bringing it closer to completing the 32-unit contract.
