Axle bolt flaw prompts Ford to recall over 103,000 F-150 pickups

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 103,000 F-150 pickup trucks due to a defect involving rear axle hub bolts that could cause the vehicles to lose power or roll away if the parking brake is not applied. The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned that both scenarios increase the risk of a crash.

The recall notice states that the bolts may weaken and break, damaging axle hub splines and compromising safety. Drivers may hear a clicking or rattling noise before failure occurs. The affected trucks were built between 2 January 2023 and 21 May 2025. Owners will be notified starting 18 August and can have the rear axle shaft assemblies replaced free of charge.

Ford says it is not aware of any related accidents or injuries. However, this issue adds to a series of recent recalls involving some of the company’s most popular models. Since May 2025, Ford has filed more than 30 recalls in the US alone, ranging from engine fire risks in Bronco Sport and Escape models to faulty backup camera systems that can fail entirely.

Some defects, such as cracked fuel injectors that could ignite fires even while parked, have prompted multiple recall rounds, raising concerns over whether past fixes were effective. The growing list of recalls has already cost the automaker an estimated $570 million this year and fueled frustration among owners reporting lingering issues even after repairs.
