Public utility vehicles (PUVs) resumed operations inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) compound Monday to transport students of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) and Muntinlupa National High School (MNHS).
The city government of Muntinlupa said the Bureau of Corrections approved the arrangement with conditions, including limited operating hours, designated pick-up and drop-off points, driver dress codes, mandatory drug testing for drivers and vehicle identification.
Mayor Ruffy Biazon is set to meet with the South Greenheights Association for a similar agreement following the closure of another access road used by students as a shortcut last July.
The move drew praise on social media, especially from students and parents who said it eased commuting. Some called for the service to include senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
BuCor gave its “in principle” approval for the route last Thursday, which is expected to benefit more than 15,000 PLMun students and 5,000 MNHS students.
