Baltimore police are investigating a weekend shooting that left six people injured, including a young child, in what authorities described as a sudden burst of gunfire in a neighborhood gathering.
The incident happened around 8:45 PM Saturday (U.S. TIME) at the intersection of Spaulding and Queensberry Avenues, Police Commissioner Richard Worley told reporters during a late-night briefing, according to a report by Fox News.
Responding officers found four men and two women suffering from gunshot wounds. Among the victims was a 5-year-old girl who was struck in the hand. Worley said her injury, along with those of a 23-year-old woman and three men aged 32, 33, and 52, was not life-threatening.
A 38-year-old man sustained the most serious injury and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition, where he underwent surgery. Homicide detectives have joined the investigation due to the severity of his condition.
Police believe the victims were gathered outside when an unidentified suspect opened fire. No arrests have been made as of Sunday, and investigators are still working to determine a motive.
