Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo “Edo” Mapelli Mozzi, hold the largest age gap among royal couples.

Their love story drew sparked attention not only because of their intimate, secret wedding on 17 July 2020, but also because of their age difference — the widest in the current royal family.

While significant age gaps in royal marriages were once common, preferences appear to have shifted in recent generations. The List notes that high-ranking members of the House of Windsor now tend to marry within their age range.

Mozzi, founder and CEO of the architectural firm and design art gallery Banda, was born on 19 November 1983, while Princess Beatrice was born on 8 August 1988 — a five-year difference. Although modest by general standards, this is still larger than that of many current royal couples. Historically, however, some age gaps were much wider, such as King Charles III and the late Princess Diana, who were 12 years apart.

Other royal couples include Beatrice’s aunt, Princess Anne, and her husband Timothy Laurence, who also have a five-year gap; Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, with a four-year gap; Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, with three years between them; and Prince William, who is only five months older than Catherine, Princess of Wales.

For Beatrice and Mozzi, the age gap has never been an issue. Both had experienced heartbreak before finding each other. Beatrice ended a long-term relationship with Dave Clark in 2016, while Mozzi had separated from his fiancée, Dara Huang, with whom he shares a son.
