NEW DELHI, India — Like her husband, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos also had a busy day interacting with their counterparts in India.
After the welcoming ceremony for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Philippine delegation, the First Couple paid tribute to India’s Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
Similar to the solemnities being practiced in the Philippines, the Marcoses took part in honoring India’s Bapu (Father).
In India, wreath-laying at the Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi, is traditionally done barefoot — a gesture that symbolizes humility, purity, and a spiritual connection to nature and the divine.
“Such an unforgettable experience . . . so honored to lay a wreath at the Raj Ghat, the memorial to Mahatma Gandhi,” Mrs. Marcos wrote on social media.
The First Lady also quoted the wise Indian leader.
“As Gandhi once said, ‘The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.’” A beautiful reminder to live with kindness, purpose, and humility.
The First Couple are on their way to Bangalore to continue their journey to further promote Philippine-India ties.
