The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Friday reaffirmed its commitment to bringing real progress to the grassroots through the Support to Barangay Development Program (SBDP) — a key initiative under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s push for lasting peace and inclusive development.
From 2022 to 2025, the DILG said over 5,590 SBDP projects worth more than P20 billion have been completed in over 4,000 barangays across the country. These include nearly 3,000 farm-to-market roads, hundreds of water systems, health stations, school buildings, and electrification projects — concrete signs of change reaching even the most remote communities.
“These are more than just numbers. These are roads where children walk safely to school, communities with clean water for the first time, and health centers that save lives,” the DILG said in a statement.
Many of the projects were implemented in formerly conflict-affected areas, including those in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao , as part of the government’s broader effort to sustain peace through development.
In his recent State of the Nation Address, President Marcos emphasized how development is key to ending insurgency for good — and programs like the SBDP play a central role.
The government has steadily increased the SBDP budget over the years — from P4 million per barangay in 2022 to P7.5 million in 2024 — ensuring continued investment in local infrastructure and services.
The DILG called on local governments and communities to keep working hand in hand to make the most of the program and help build safer, stronger barangays for every Filipino.
