Alex Eala dropped to No. 69 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings after deciding to take a break from competitive campaign.
From previous placing of No. 53, the Filipina sensation fell 23 notches lower as she decided to sit out following grueling campaigns on grass surface like the Eastbourne Open and the Wimbledon Championships.
Eala made it to the final of Eastbourne before making an early exit in Wimbledon following a 6-3, 2-6, 1-6 loss to defending champion Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic in the first round.
Right now, she is in the country to rest and recover before kicking off yet another action-packed campaign in the Canadian Open at the IGA Stadium in Montreal from 26 July to 7 August, Cincinnati Open at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio from 7 to 18 August, and Monterrey Open at the Club Sonoma in Monterrey, Mexico from 18 to 23 August.
Eala will need all the experience she can get as she is already assured of a spot in the main draw of the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York City from 24 August to 7 September.
