A potential violent altercation on Thursday afternoon was prevented by a quick-thinking citizen who called 911 and the rapid deployment of Marikina police, resulting in the arrest of an armed suspect in less than three minutes.

A concerned citizen reported an altercation at a gas station located along JP Rizal corner Kingsway Street, Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina City. Just three minutes later, officers from Sector 6 of the Marikina City Police Station arrived at the scene and swiftly subdued the suspect, preventing further harm.

The arrested suspect, a 45-year-old security guard, allegedly threatened a 30-year-old man during a heated road encounter.

Based on the investigation, the victim was traveling along JP Rizal Street in Barangay Nangka, when the suspect, riding a motorcycle, suddenly honked from behind and attempted to overtake amid traffic congestion. As tension escalated, the suspect reportedly approached the driver’s side, cursed at the victim, and followed him until they reached a nearby gas station.

The victim stopped his vehicle to confront the suspect, but the situation quickly turned violent. The suspect continued hurling verbal threats, pulled a firearm from his bag, and shouted, “Gusto mo, barilin kita!” before punching the victim in the face and kicking his vehicle, causing visible damage.

The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended on the spot by the responding officers.

Recovered from the suspect were a loaded .38 revolver caliber with six live rounds and a sling bag.

The suspect, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, now faces multiple complaints, including physical injury, grave threat, malicious mischief, and violation of Republic Act 10591. NEIL ALCOBER
