The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Saturday cleared a police officer involved in the viral chase of a minor who snatched a mobile phone from a jeepney passenger.
In a statement sent to DAILY TRIBUNE, the QCPD addressed the viral Facebook post showing the foot pursuit of a 14-year-old boy, which occurred at around 5:01 p.m. on 3 July, along Aurora Boulevard and E. Rodriguez Avenue in Barangay Immaculate Conception.
Based on CCTV footage and official reports, the minor, a resident of Barangay Doña Imelda, allegedly stole an Android phone from a public utility jeepney passenger.
During the chase, the phone was dropped and later recovered by its owner, who declined to press charges.
Personnel from Kamuning Police Station 10’s Tactical Motorcycle Riding Unit responded and successfully intercepted the minor. He was later turned over to barangay officials and eventually released to his mother’s custody.
“QCPD reaffirms its commitment to handling incidents involving minors and assures the public that we will uphold the provisions of Republic Act 9344,” the statement read, referring to the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.
