The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the driver's license of the trailer truck driver involved in the fatal Marikina City crash that killed three people and injured 10 others.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II, announced Friday that the driver also received the maximum penalty for reckless driving in addition to the license revocation.
The incident occurred on 23 April, when a speeding trailer truck overturned and crushed three vehicles in Marikina City. A video of the accident went viral online, prompting a swift investigation.
During the probe, Mendoza said the LTO rejected the driver's claim of brake failure. A thorough inspection of the vehicle reportedly showed no evidence supporting the excuse.
A five-page LTO resolution stated that operating a truck requires heightened caution — especially at night and on varying road conditions — which the driver failed to observe.
The LTO also placed the truck under alarm status, directing law enforcement officers to apprehend the driver if seen operating any other vehicle.
The agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing road safety, noting that it will intensify inspections of trucks operating along major roads during nighttime hours.
