The Philippine national women’s football team will need to beat Hong Kong on Saturday to formally clinch a spot in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
Hostilities start at 5 p.m. (Manila time) at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh as the Filipinas look to finish the Asian Cup Qualifiers undefeated.
The Filipinas will be entering the match oozing with confidence after thrashing hosts Cambodia, 6-0, last Wednesday.
Currently, the Philippines is on top of Group G with two wins in as many games with a +9 goal difference while Hong Kong is in second place with a 1-1-0 win-draw-loss record.
Despite the absence of strikers Sarina Bolden and Katrina Guillou due to injuries, the Filipinas are overflowing with goals during the qualifiers.
Meryll Serrano is currently the Philippines’ top scorer in the qualifiers with three goals in two matches while Alexa Pino has two goals.
Serrano said they plan to go all out against Hong Kong as they gun for a spot in next year’s Asian Cup in Australia.
“We have one more game against Hong Kong and we really wanna go and get all the points,” Serrano said.
