The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced Friday the release of 1,004 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) between 13 June and 3 July, bringing the total number of inmates released under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administration to 24,583.
BuCor director general Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr. stated in a news release that those released were acquitted, granted probation or habeas corpus, paroled, posted bail, or had completed their sentences.
The released PDLs came from the Correctional Institution for Women (52), Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (109), CIW-IPPF (1), CIW-Mindanao (10), Davao Prison and Penal Farm (136), Leyte Regional Prison (50), New Bilibid Prison (256), NBP-Maximum (79), NBP-Medium (62), NBP-Minimum (17), NBP-Reception and Diagnostic Center (9), Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (110) and San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (113).
In a separate development, Justice Secretary Crispin Remulla on Thursday led the inauguration and turnover of the Bureau of Immigration Warden Facility, located within the BuCor compound in Muntinlupa City.
The 1,260-square-meter facility will serve as a temporary holding area for foreign nationals undergoing deportation proceedings. It is situated at the Muntinlupa Juvenile Training Center barracks inside the NBP Reservation.
Catapang added that BuCor is allocating one hectare (10,000 square meters) of its property for the Bureau of Immigration’s use.
