Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGEN) is turning to artificial intelligence to streamline operations and improve energy reliability, adopting IBM’s Maximo Application Suite (MAS) to manage its critical assets across the country.
The AI-powered platform will enable MGEN to monitor equipment in real-time, automate maintenance, and make faster, data-driven decisions to reduce downtime and extend asset lifespans.
“At MGEN, innovation is not just about new technology — it is about rethinking what is possible to address the energy trilemma — to deliver reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy for the people,” MGEN president and CEO Emmanuel Rubio said.
Maximo uses advanced analytics, AI and Internet of Things (IoT) features — such as work order intelligence and an AI assistant built with watsonx.ai — to give MGEN a unified view of asset performance across its diverse energy portfolio.
Christine Llanto-Ravelo, country software leader of IBM Philippines, said Maximo Application Suite is well suited to help MGEN manage and maintain its wide range of power assets, which are essential to providing reliable electricity to Filipinos.
MGEN is implementing the system across key operational areas, including real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, inventory, procurement and financial tracking.
It currently operates in 12 provinces and is behind the MTerra Solar Project — the world’s largest integrated solar and battery storage facility — being built in Nueva Ecija and Bulacan. It also has a stake in Singapore-based PacificLight Power.
